Some of the most recent adventures and events :-

Seven Members chartered a 34’ yacht and braved the Bristol Channel in a gale force 5-7.  Only 3 had sailed before and most were apprehensive when the main sail ripped before we got out into the channel.  When David (the most experienced sailor with 2 single crossings of the Atlantic behind him) was the first to feed the seagulls with his dinner we new we were in for a rough ride.  Organiser and Captain Phil Davies navigated us safely down towards Schomer Island and back into Milford harbor in the dark avoiding the oil tankers.  The dream of buying a yacht and sailing around the world suddenly evaporated for many of us, but asked if we would do it all again the answer would be yes.

Continuing with our international exchanges at the end of April eight couples went to Avignon in France for an International Meeting chaired by Alain Jousseame del la Bretesche, International Vice President.  To be honest the wine was also a big draw.

On the Friday night we kicked of with a reception at the Town hall and were then entertained by our host with an excellent dinner cooked by Claude Lambert an award winning chef at our Hotel le Petit Manoir.

Saturday started with a business meeting where we discussed open membership and charity work.  This was followed by a trip to Le Pont D’Avignon and wine tasting at the Cairanne vineyard.  To our surprise we were hosted there with a fine four course meal and we all had a good sing along.  In the Evening we were taken to Chateau Neuf Du Pape, which now a ruin.  However to our surprise there was a function room underneath it at Claude once again cooked us a wonderful five course meal with a different wine with every course and Champagne to finish.  Throughout the meal we were entertained by dancers, singers and illusionists and finished with a disco.  The Evening went so well that Ian & Lynne Faull and the entire Hierarchy of 41 Club Francais lost track of the time and missed the coach back to the Hotel.

Sunday started with another three course farewell lunch.  As our party was leaving on the Monday we had time to explore Avignon, the city of Popes.  Many visited the Palace, museums and fine shops.  In the evening we had another fine meal by Claude washed down with some of the hotels own wine.
